Services: Residential & Commercial
Northwest Heating &Cooling, Inc., is fully capable of comprehensive services for both commercial and residential heating and cooling systems.
Below are a few things to keep in mind when analyzing your system and considering services:
Heating (Gas and Electric)
Today’s central heating systems are more efficient, specifically gas. Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE), the heating industry rating system, is used to measure the efficiency of converting gas into energy for heating. A higher AFUE the better. Regulations of gas furnaces require them to exceed 78 percent efficiency with the most efficient having an AFUE of nearly 97 percent.
NWHC encourages pre-scheduled and regular maintenance to prevent major failures and to ensure your systems are working at top efficiency. NWHC recommends changing air filters in your system according to the manufacturer’s directions. Additionally, have heating air ducts checked periodically for leaks. Sealing leaky ducts can save up to 27% of all heated (and cooled) air!
Air Conditioning (AC)
Today’s air conditioning systems are more efficient and cost more upfront. The industry uses a rating called Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) for central systems. The higher the SEER the better. Central air conditioning units rated at 13 SEER uses almost a third less electricity than a 10 SEER system. The Energy Guide label clearly displays the SEER rating of all new AC equipment.
If your system is more than about 10 years old NWHC recommends comparing the costs and benefits of buying a new system before considering repairing an older unit.
NWHC strongly recommends annual maintenance. It is encouraged to change all consumer serviceable air filters in your AC system according to the manufacturer’s directions. If you neglect the maintenance on water removal lines and pans, they will clog up, overflow, and potentially cause water damage to your ceilings, floors and belongings. Pre-schedule your air conditioning maintenance before summer hits!
Heat pumps function both as a heater and air conditioner using the same equipment that operates in reverse modes. When in heating mode, rather than primarily burning a fuel or heating an electrical element to generate heat, a heat pump concentrates, extracts, and transfers warmth from the outside to the inside of your home or building and vice versa.
Manufacturers rate the performance of heat pumps by a coefficient of performance (COP). A higher COP rating is better. Another rating for heat pumps is heating seasonal performance factor (HSPF). Like COP, the higher the HSPF rating, the less electricity the unit will use to heat your home.
Annual maintenance is strongly recommended. NWHC also recommends filter changes per the manufacturer’s directions, checking the refrigerant levels, checking mechanicals such as fans, making sure electrical connections are working properly, and cleaning of coils.
Don’t hesitate to contact Northwest Heating & Cooling, Inc., to maintain, repair, or replace any part of your HVAC system.
